Treat Yourself Tuesday

Today I’m linking up with one of my favorite bloggers, Becky from Olives n’ Wine, to show some of the treats I’ve indulged in over the past week. I highly suggest you check out her blog, especially my family and friends back in Indiana. Becky recently moved to Chicago with her husband, and it’s entertaining to read about all of the fun things they do in the city!

As you know, I’m not only cheap frugal, I’m currently job-searching which makes me think twice about purchases. I know I’m married and my husband keeps telling me it’s “our” money, but it just feels weird buying things for myself (aside from groceries) just because I want to. It’s kinda the same feeling I have when buying TJ birthday gifts with his own money, haha. Anyways, I did spend a little over the course of the week, but also pampered myself a bit for free. Here’s what was on the menu:

Jane Green, Pieces of My Heart- I’ve been reading books by Jane Green since high school, and my brother bought me her latest book (at least I think it’s her most recent) for Christmas. I set it aside on purpose and started it last week. So far so good! If you haven’t read any of her work, I highly suggest you give it a try. Her books are easy to read and humorous. She’s actually originally from England, so some of her books have ties to the London area (I believe she eventually moved to the United States and is residing in the Northeast).

Movies- This purchase wasn’t necessary, and I’m actually kind of embarrassed to even post this, haha. I was at Target (one of my favorite stores!) and the $5 movies caught my eye… Alright, She’s All That was a middle school favorite, and I’ve never seen Ice Age before, but the hubby and I are slowly trying to grow our children’s movie collection. The rest are my childhood favorites- especially Care Bears and the Berenstain Bears. Has anyone else seen We’re Back?! I LOVED this movie growing up! I couldn’t pass up $30, so I got them all 🙂

Starbucks- Submitting job applications and resumes online is tedious and down-right boring. I try to limit my caffeine intake and we have a Keurig which is absolutely amazing! Starbucks is a treat for us as it’s so flipping expensive- I seriously used to buy a grande latte 4-5 times a week (4-5 years ago or so). What a waste of money!!! I still had money leftover on a gift card from Tyler for my birthday last year, so I bought myself a grande Skinny Vanilla Latte to help boost my energy while job searching. I thought this sucker was laced with something as I was so amped up- I guess I’m not used to that much caffeine anymore!

Bobs- I know Tom’s are big (or maybe that was the trend last year and I’m just behind), but I was hesitant to spend over $50 on a pair of shoes I wasn’t absolutely sure I’d love. I stopped in at The Shoe Dept. after grocery shopping and these pair of Bob’s caught my eye. They’re different than anything I have, but I really liked them for some reason. I thought they’d be cute paired with a pair of shorts and a plain colored tee or tank top in the summer, AND they were on sale for $29.99. They’re super comfy and I wanted something in between running shoes/sandals last year so I bought them. FYI- I don’t know if it’s just me, but I had to go a size down in these. I’m normally a size 8, but those were loose and I felt like they were going to flop off my feet. I walked around the store for a good 10 minutes in a size 7, and although they were a tad bit tight, they felt much better (the sales people probably thought I was high). I figured they’ll stretch over time, too 🙂

So  there’s a little peak inside of my indulgences over the past week.

What book are you currently reading?

Are you a fan of favorite childhood movies? Please tell me I’m not the only weirdo that gets excited over this stuff…

Starbucks- How often do you go? What is your favorite drink to get?

Bobs or Toms- Love them, hate them?

  1. I’m a Starbucks lover haha…I got probably twice a week. I always get a Venti Black Tea…not a coffee drinker so this is my replacement. 🙂

  2. Oh my gosh, I agree – Starbucks is just so darn pricey! I got a bajillion dollars (I exaggerate… 😉 ) in giftcards for Christmas thankfully so I’ve been spreading them out for plain black coffees. I love lattes but they are $6 a pop – craziness! Thanks for linking up 🙂

  3. No time to read (too busy blogging and grading papers!) but my fave old school movie is Clueless and Mean Girls (Anne of Green Gables, Princess Bride…) Starbucks- only when I’m meeting someone to catch up (love skinny vanilla lattes. Gingerbread and peppermint mochas are my ‘fat’ treats!)

  4. I am the same with starbucks gift cards- they last me forever! did you register yours with starbucks? i find that they send out SO MANY coupons- buy one get one free type stuff- so I save up my gift cards until there’s a promotion and then get two drinks for the price of one 🙂

I don’t think I’ve read anything by Jane Green- I’ll have to check her out!
